The Ideal Minimalist Design For a Small Kitchen

There is no need that you have to have a big house for the purpose of interior decoration. Even a small house with very little furniture can be decorated with lovely if certain things are kept in mind. The same is true when it comes to the kitchen. If you think that your kitchen can not be given a decorative look you desire because of the space you very many mistakes. Miracles can be done with a small kitchen with a smart space management. This article will help you to understand what must be done by you if you want to provide a decorative kitchen upgrade.

The first thing you need to consider when designing a small kitchen is how efficiently you use the space you have. You should focus on saving all the important things in the kitchen with a minimum surface area. Rather than fill the kitchen floor with the furniture you should rather install the cabinets in your kitchen wall. There are many types of cabinets specially made for the small kitchen. You can have a storage solution is most effective for your kitchen if you use it. These cabinets are both attractive in appearance. You will have a good number of choices of cabinet styles and designs will be most appropriate to your kitchen.

You can also think of having an island in the middle of your kitchen. This will help you to most for storage purposes and will give you access to the tools from every corner of the kitchen. Certain modifications of the size of your kitchen appliances can also make the room look more spacious. For example, instead of putting a large dining table and refrigerator, put the table and a small refrigerator in the kitchen. If the kitchen space is not enough to put a table in it, then you can also attach a small counter for your kitchen wall and put one or two seats in front of them. That way, your kitchen will have a place to eat is very modern. Furniture with more depth and less width is more suitable for a small kitchen. A Good ‘Modern Green House’ Effect

Visitors to the exhibition “The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture and Design” might momentarily forget that they are in the National Building Museum, and not a high-end home design showroom. “I looove the recycled glass tiles,” one young woman could be overheard whispering to her male companion, who appeared to be studying the relative merits of bamboo flooring vs. eco-friendly carpet tile. “Wouldn’t they look great in the second-floor bathroom?”

The consumer-friendly nature of the show, which boasts sponsorship by the Home Depot Foundation (as well as appliance manufacturer Bosch and Benjamin Moore Paints, among other in-kind supporters), is intentional. Think of it as a follow-up of sorts to the museum’s 2003 “Big & Green: Toward Sustainable Architecture in the 21st Century,” which showcased only large-scale projects. Here, in what might be called “Small & Green,” the emphasis is not on what the owners and designers of giant skyscrapers are doing but on what individuals like you and me can do to save the planet.

For starters, you can turn off the running water while you’re brushing your teeth, or get that leaky kitchen faucet fixed. You don’t want to know how many gallons are wasted by a fixture that drips once every second (but you’ll soon find out: up to 10 gallons a week).

The show is filled with such practical tips, which vary from ideas that will save both money and energy (turn down the thermostat) to those that might require a trip to the bank. It even begins with a full-scale, walk-in model home: the so-called Glidehouse, a handsome, prefabricated modular living space designed with both the environment and Architectural Digest in mind by California architect Michelle Kaufmann, who not only lives in one herself but sells the things from her Web site, http://mkd-arc.com/ .

Helpfully, almost everything has a tag or two attached to it, from those that tell you who makes the nifty pine-and-bamboo Schaschlik knife block (Greener Grass Design) to those that drop gentle hints as to why you might want to look into whether your own kitchen cabinets contain formaldehyde or other toxic chemicals.

Like most of the Building Museum’s shows, the core of the thought-provoking display is an assortment of models and photographs, in this case highlighting examples of green residential design around the world, broken down by terrain: desert, waterside, forest/mountain, tropics and suburb. Many, of course, are impractical for the average Joes and Janes who will drop in to the show. How many of us, after all, can afford to build a vacation getaway on Bruny Island, Tasmania, Australia (site of 1+2 Architecture’s Walla Womba Guest House, whose raised steel frame respects natural drainage patterns), or the striking Solar Tube of Driendl Architects (located outside Vienna, Austria, and featuring innovative ways of capturing and storing the sun’s warmth)?

There are, however, also examples from the other end of the economic spectrum, as with the Colorado Court apartment complex by Pugh + Scarpa Architecture. Covered with almost 200 shiny blue photovoltaic panels, the 44-unit low-income residence in Santa Monica, Calif., catches the light glinting off the water, making an environmental as well as an aesthetic statement.

And that’s the real point of “The Green House,” which sets it apart from the house-porn shelter magazines it can at times resemble. Not that you could never live like this, but that, in fact, you can. And that, by doing the right thing, sustainable, ecologically sound design doesn’t just have to feel good. It can look fabulous, too.

Good Neighbor : Architect Designs Patrick Ahearn’s summer retreat takes its cues from Edgartown’s historic houses.

ARCHITECTS CAN TALK A GOOD GAME ON THE SCALE, CONTEXT, and deftly put their work into the natural landscape and environment. Most au Courant fluent in the rhetoric of praise-down on the scale of the house and practically scoffs at the garish trophy home.

But the true test of all the architects' core beliefs are revealed in designing their homes for themselves.

In this small plot of land between two streets of Edgartown, one can build a domed Colonial spread throughout the property like a cargo ship ran aground. Someone could raise a very unneighborly giant box that eliminates the view and overwhelmed the perfectly proportioned famous antique house in the city. Someone could be built as high, wide and wild as the budget and allowed the building inspector.

Someone could have. Patrick Ahearn to not vote. "Historical environment no blank canvas with nature," said Boston-based architect and Vineyard. "So, the best design for my clients really the greater good of the environment, and that applies when I am my own client."

Ahearn confidence in the design that is consistent with the house next door may have come from unusual sources: the environment of his childhood in Levittown, New York.

For some people, 17,000 cookie cutter homes built on Long Island's potato fields in the 1950s no more than "Little Boxes" from the satirical ballad made famous by Pete Seeger. For the 55 years Ahearn However, post-World War II to realize the design development wisdom beyond providing affordable, practical shelter.

"Levittown house is designed to accommodate the expansion in the year as families and incomes grow. And they do it," said Ahearn. "So much so, there is little left that has not been extended. And they fit together as well now as when first built."

And in it found not only the subject Ahearn master's thesis at Syracuse University, but the principles he brings to his designs - including himself on a shady street in the heart of the former whalemen work environment.

He called the approach "scripting," in which he imagines a history of architecture and building on a site that can last for centuries.

During the whaling era, Ahearn's environment busied himself with merchants and sailors. The house is not grand waterfront mansions of captains and shipmasters, but modest homes for blacksmiths and shipwrights.

"So, for the house itself, I think this is a Federal Colonial 1700s house that at one point had built warehouse, which is then attached to the main body of the house. At some point in time, the owners converted barn as a home base for growing families, and they built a livery stable and carriage house at the rear of the property as a means of income, "said Ahearn. "And about 200 years later, I inherited the homestead and make a big renovation and restoration of this historic property."

Moderns architects starting small, thinking big

Among the growing ranks of Brownsville natives to start a home business is Carlos Valera and Javier Huerta, who occupied a small office in West Price Road.

Together with their partner Francisco Lopez, San Antonio native, they came to make their mark on the growing community.

The trio decided to launch an enterprise architecture and development, building on the knowledge and the principles of de-sign of the two architects in the group, Lopez and Huerta.

Origin Works Ltd., a company they formed less than a year ago, is now breaking ground on the first project, a group of townhouses on Wildrose Lane, off Central Boulevard.

The 14 three-bedroom townhouses will begin in the low $ 200,000 range, they said. Development will be called the Wild Rose Court.

"We want to agree on our vision," said Lopez about the beginning of the company. Vision turned into Origin Works' design philosophy: climate, culture, context and crafts.

After graduating from the University of Texas in 1995, Huerta and Lopez worked at Lake / Flato Archi-tects Inc. in San Antonio.

Companies that acquired the American Institute of Architects' Firm of the Year award in 2004.

"It's rare for Texas companies to get credit," said Huerta. One of the most prestigious architecture awards, Huerta said the AIA's highest award is usually given to companies in California and New York.

With the Wild Rose Court project, Valera said the company will start down the path structure "of our culture and native to Brownsville.

"Mexico is a big part of our lives," added Lopez.

All three points businessman Robert Runyon, a former mayor of Brownsville city recorded in the photographs in the early 20th century, as a documentarian of the unique, historic architecture.

"Building (in Runyon's photos) looked great before the time of taking the victim and the building is covered with a bad cosmetics," said Valera.

"Styles have overlap, and from time to time you get layers," added Lopez.

While downtown Brownsville has one, coherent architecture a century ago, who lost as a slap on the facade of the building in the 1960s and 1970s.

With the new project, "we want the contemporary results when you take the principles of (Brownsville) history," said Huerta.

To do that, they combine the advances in the field since the original Brownsville constructed buildings. They also ensure that the landscape architect involved in the project as a whole - a part of the climate, culture, context and craft in Origin Works' mission statement.

"Landscaping and trees is very important and should be important to Brownsville as a city" because of subtropical climate, Huerta said.

For that, the position of important buildings. They will corner of the building to take advantage of the "Venturi effect," which requires and the natural wind speed by channeling it through a small space.

They can provide more homes on the property, but instead decided to space them, create more pages of cold regions with Venturi effect.

Origin Works will also start work in August at the new house on Ringgold Street, where local ENVI-ronment and Brownsville history will play an important role in the design of the house.

In the end, Huerta said their goal with the new development is to "create a great place to live and a great community."

With the principles of their design, he said, Wild Rose Court will have "a lively atmosphere in a community where you want to see the way you are."

Unique city architecture brochures, restoration workshops offered

City recently received $ 13,800 state grant for "Celebrating Kingston's Architecture," a program to promote the recognition and preservation of historic buildings and the environment, announced Landmarks Preservation Commission.

"Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to understanding the value of historic buildings," commission member Alan Baer said. "If someone does not know the historic house's history and values, is threatened by the owner of the house itself."

City of Kingston released three brochures to enlighten the population on architectural gems tucked into every corner of the city: "Preservation Guidelines," "7 Ways to Love Your Older Home" and "Historic District, Kingston NY." The brochures are available at the city planning office in City Hall, the building safety division at Garraghan Drive, Friends of Historic Kingston Museum on Main Street and Area Heritage Center on lower Broadway.

Free information workshop, "Restoring Your Older Home: How to Do It," will be offered from 9:30-1: 30 pm June 17 at the Kingston Library on Franklin Street. Local professionals will discuss the building style, color, restoration approaches, materials and where to find additional resources for recovery.

"This workshop is for anyone with an old building, even if a simple house with a little ginger on the front porch," said Suzanne Cahill from the city planning office.

Restored free tour of seven homes and commercial buildings will be offered from 9 am-noon June 24. Maps will be available from 9-10 am at the library. The Library has developed a reference in the preservation of the Local History Room that includes books, pamphlets and recovery guidelines.

Modern AIA TAP Building Information Modeling Award Goes to Graphisoft Customer

Houston-based architectural firm Kirksey was awarded the Building Information Model in 2006 (BIM) Award for "Inspirational Pilot Project" by the American Institute of Architects Technology in Architectural Practice (AIA TAP) Knowledge Community. The Firm's winning submission, Satterfield & Pontikes Westway Office Building in Houston, designed and models with BIM process using Graphisoft ® Archicad ®, Estimator ®, and Maker ®.

Submissions are evaluated on various criteria, including: the benefits are measured in cost, schedule, or quality; interoperability between software applications; effective teamwork, the process of change, cultural change, and, the return value. Special emphasis is placed on projects in the real world and teamwork.

Set to be completed by the end of 2006, this Class A office building will be three floors, 65,000 square foot, cast-in-place concrete structures. This facility will also meet the requirements of the United States Green Building Commission's (USGBC) Leadership Energy and Environmental Design (LEED ®) certification, ensuring good building will be sustainable and energy efficient.

Kirksey implemented exterior sunshade system designers to increase the thermal efficiency and provide glare-free views for occupants. A roof garden at the facility to reduce the heat island effect and create a beautiful garden with space for tenants. A central garden area with landscaping and benches to create a green open space for tenants and owners to use. In seeking to create a more efficient design process, design-build team worked together to use a BIM process that helped facilitate the A / E team's documentation, coordination, fabrication, cost estimating, and construction schedules.

"Archicad's collaboration and teamwork skills is key in ensuring the success of this project," said David Larrew, AIA, Director of Technology Architecture GDLA for Kirksey. "In our work with Satterfield & Pontikes, also Graphisoft client, we need a virtual building technology that will allow for easier coordination and integration of imperfect information. The tools provided by Archicad allowed for the entire design and construction team to work as one."

Founded in 1971, Kirksey specializes in architecture, interior design, master planning and sustainable design, and consulting. Consists of 11 focused practice groups - commercial, community / religion, country clubs and spas, education, government, healthcare, hospitality, interior architecture, laboratory / industrial, residential, and retail - Graphisoft companies using Archicad for the entire design. Modern Home Improvement: Texture tells the tale

Two of those lines were introduced in 2005 but who had just arrived in stores Echo and Otto, bedroom, dining room and accent furniture that follows what Jaramillo refers to as the "ethos" of the mid-century design.

Part of that characteristic is the desire to experiment with new materials, the two San Francisco designer, using bamboo for Echo lines and materials that can be recycled polyweave resembles rattan for Otto.

They also bent into a curve at some point to create a pull handle, providing "a certain depth of the piece," Jaramillo said.

He said that he refused to look at other reinterpretations of modernism, but studying the original works by Ray and Charles Eames and others before going to work, preferring to not second-guess the outcome.

Jaramillo incorporated into the base complete contrast from many of his pieces, the other characteristics of the Middle Ages, the case provides a good "air, an increase feelings."

"As an Autodesk Authorized Training Center, our instructors meet strict standards of quality and experience of teaching, which evaluated regularly, and almost all have been certified as an expert on Autodesk software programs which they teach."

Bringing Design to the Next Level Gichner with Autodesk Inventor Training

Earlier this year, engineers from Gichner Shelter Systems (http://www.gichner.us) from Dallastown, PA to participate in a training class given by Synergis' application engineer Jim Swain, an Autodesk Inventor Certified Expert with over 20 years experience CAD, which has been with Synergis since 1997. Gichner, a leading supplier of foam and beam and honeycomb storage system, start the training in order to retrieve their CAD designs to the next level. "The instructor, Jim Swain, was knowledgeable," said Bill Duh, CAD Supervisor at Gichner Shelter Systems. "The training we received from Synergis Engineering Design Solutions to help us move forward with implementation of our inventors. I plan and hope that additional training from them in the future."

Most software failures, including unplanned downtime, comes from a lack of user acceptance and know-how. That is why it is important that the engineer is better to use their software today and keep up to date on the progress of the software industry. Robert Green, an independent industry consultant since 1991 that has helped hundreds of clients maximize the potential of CAD, said, "The days of teaching yourself these complex programs are over. The risk of the company too much in terms of lost productivity if they do not take the time to get training on how to use their software. "

K-Tron Learns New Features Next AutoCAD Release

Their training by Synergis' director of Building and Infrastructure Solutions, Peter Gehring, an experienced CAD instructor with over 15 years of experience and Autodesk Architectural Desktop Certified Expert and Autodesk Implementation Certified Expert MEP.

"The AutoCAD training provided by Pete Gehring very good. Pete obviously very knowledgeable about the software. His instructions are clear, comprehensive yet concise," said Linda Davis of Product Engineering in Pitman, NJ-based K-Tron America, which provides a system material handling equipment for various types of industries. "Pete was also interested in assessing the specific needs of individuals in the class. He was able to intuitively with questions and our conversation that he was well needed to take more time with detailed explanations, or that we can proceed to the next topic. This kept the class on the fast but comfortable speed , and we were able to cover much ground. From my 15 years of experience with AutoCAD - I have to say, and I know my colleagues agree, this is the best training seminar I've been a part of for AutoCAD - or any other application in this case. "

Modern building a future design

Even with 30 years experience building houses more than 200,000 low-cost houses around the world, not Habitat for Humanity has set ambitious goals such as building 400 houses in one week.

Usually, it takes Habitat four to five months to build a house using volunteers who do not work in construction.

This week, though, Habitat chapters across the country are getting volunteer labor and expertise of experienced home builders and their subcontractors, and they were both in their journey to achieve that goal one week.

What's the difference when house builders are involved.

Builders and real estate professionals to volunteer with Habitat projects here and there, but never so many at once.

In Orlando, "Home Builders Blitz 2006" is to use volunteers from Centex Homes, Inland Homes, Mercedes Homes, Homes and David Weekly Home Transeastern to build five homes on Mandrake Street.

Volunteers from Lexon Homes, Reiche Silliman, Ryland Homes and Park Square House was built four in Apopka. And volunteers from the two Houses of ICI building in Daytona Beach.

By 11 am, a house in Orlando already has established the exterior walls and roll set. By 4 pm, several homes in Apopka roof had passed inspection.

And it was done by the generous volunteers who know their stuff.

That's good news for families who will call these houses "homes" in just a few days - people who otherwise might never experience the joy of home ownership.

Modern building tab up for brew house

yor Ed Pawlowski has asked state officials for an additional $ 500,000 to help the Fegley family, owners of Bethlehem Brew Works, a complete plan for the restaurant and brewery on Hamilton Street.

The Brew Works' Allentown location, announced three years ago, has been awarded more than U.S. $ 4.5 million in local, state and federal loans and grants, and shall be exempt from most state and local taxes until 2011.

The project is also scheduled for $ 1.8 million in loans through local financing pool administered by the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp.

But construction costs have created an unexpected $ 700,000 funding gap, raising the project cost more than $ 7.7 million, and further delay the opening.

Engineers determined in December that the floor of the former Harold's Furniture building was too weak to support the quarry tiles and hundreds of visitors who will stand on it, said Dick Fegley, co-owner of the restaurant.

"No one gave this thought because it has become a furniture store," said Mike Rosenfeld, executive director of the Allentown Redevelopment Authority, which has a building at 812-814 Hamilton St.

Fegley said the building was built for the pre-World War I standards, and the floor needs to be strengthened with a steel beam. That, coupled with inflation of construction costs while the project has been delayed, creating a funding gap.

Project and the family also jumped in February by the death of 33-year-Fegley, son of David, who is a partner in Allentown restaurants.

The long-awaited restaurant and bar, which was initiated by Pawlowski in 2003 when he became director of community and economic development, seen as the anchor of Allentown's downtown revitalization efforts.

Pawlowski said the initial projects in urban revitalization efforts often require significant government loans and grants for businesses to take the risks associated with the opening of the city center.

"This is what you need to do to get projects of this size and place in an urban environment," he said.

Most of the aid comes in the form of loans to pay back Fegleys, he said.

State, which has pledged $ 1 million for the project, had convinced the city can meet the demand for another $ 500,000, said Francis Dougherty, Pawlowski's candidate for director of Community and Economic Development, but can not formally committed to the project until after passing the state budget.

Budget deadline is June 30, but it's up to Pennsylvania General Assembly to approve the state spending plan, and sometimes beyond the deadline.

The family will Fegley took the additional cost of $ 250,000. Fegley said his family has sunk more than $ 500,000 to the project.

Kevin Ortiz, spokesman for the state Department of Community and Economic Development, said the country to evaluate requests for assistance, and that Gov. Ed Rendell to see the project as important to Allentown's revitalization efforts.

"Governor and the DCED are committed to making this project successful," said Ortiz.

In addition to the $ 1 million in state funds, the Brew Works has received U.S. $ 3.4 million Department of Housing and Urban Development loan and $ 1.8 million in financing from the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp.

City has donated $ 3000 to assist with the design and $ 90,000 for facade improvements. Work has been completed facade.

The agreement Fegleys have to pay city parking authority and $ 40,000 for a property and parking nearby.

Location of the building in Keystone Opportunity Zone that would be exempt from most state and local taxes until 2011.

After getting interior work underway, construction is expected to take about nine months. When the federal loan was approved in April 2005, officials hope the restaurant will open this summer. Now that schedule looks more like the opening of spring 2007.

Includes plans for 350 seats, 100-seat basement, 200-seat third-floor banquet hall and 100-seat outside the yard. Expected to employ approximately 160 people. The top floor is expected to be converted into leasable office space.

If things can not move quickly, can cause problems for the HUD loan, Rosenfeld said. Document that requires a loan of money to spend in September, unless an extension is received.

While the possibility of extension, Rosenfeld said anything can happen in Washington, DC, and that the longer the time for construction, the higher the uncertainty.

"The longer this out, the more worried I get," said Rosenfeld.

Modern real estate team breaks from large corporation

Who does not know the story of David grabbed a stone from the bag, placing it in the sling and let it fly at the giant Goliath?

What you do not know is that today, Goliath has turned into a big, real estate conglomerate that markets on a large scale for buyers and sellers.

David Sirsi, a real estate agent and broker, and his wife, Bonnie, is a couple of power, who follow their own dreams to serve clients.

Miki Garcia: Why did you and Bonnie leave the sacred space of a real estate company?

Dave Sirsi: Conventional real estate is quickly defined by large companies and real estate companies in smaller, locally owned companies. Of course, real estate companies viewed the transaction from the broader needs than local firms. Both entities offer specific advantages and disadvantages based on the seller 'paradigm demands.

However, in a marketing environment where today a significant interface and automatic Internet at home with a list of MLS members, 87 percent of all buyers (according to the National Association of Realtors) search on the internet at first for the property.

There really is not a benefit on behalf of corporate companies. The additional services provided by national, state and local association has been leveling the playing field in all aspects of real estate transactions. The most important aspect of any real estate transaction is the relationship between real estate agents and clients.

In Sirsi and Company Real Estate, is our vision to provide "personalized" service to each and every client uses all the tools available to us to meet their specific needs.

Miki: Was it challenging to start his own real estate agent?

Dave: When your dreams bigger than your obstacles, you will overcome obstacles to achieve your dreams and goals. The result is that every challenge has a solution with many opportunities.

Miki: What Sirsi and Company offer a client?

Dave: We have over 40 years real estate experience, contractor license and master's (MPA) in the regions and the federal government. Our "team" of agents and other professionals qualified to provide clients in residential property for resale include both custom homes, new construction and the built-to-match contract, relocation, income / investment properties and sales.

Miki: A husband and wife sometimes disagree. Who gets the last word?

Bonnie: We have been working together since we were married in 1984. If Dave wants the last word, he could have it. I told him, "So fire me." If he does not, I'm going on a golf course.

Dave: My friend, partner and wife is the "glue." Over 22 years, Bonnie has been a licensed Realtor and has personally served as administrative assistant / transaction co-coordinator. He has been instrumental in forming two companies Real Estate and currently serves as CEO / CFO to not only Sirsi and Company Real Estate, Inc. but also for other companies of The Joshua Group LLC.

She manages my personal files while providing oversight for all of our operations. His knowledge should be questioned and he was always there, not only for me, but for each of our colleagues, providing support in every aspect of business and personal life. There is always time for "you" with Bonnie.

Miki: What really happened in Folsom, El Dorado Hills real estate market?

Dave: Keep in mind that the current real estate should be viewed from a certain neighborhood postal code, it appears that the two markets have moved into a buyer market. The average inventory compared with the "sale pending" and "active listings" indicates 6.57 months worth of inventory.

Currently, there are 438 active list at the El Dorado Hills and 444 in Folsom, while the 30-day delayed sale of 70 and 64, respectively.

What buyers and sellers really looking for is what happens to the value of the house. The MLS shows that pending sales versus "sold homes" show about 3 percent decline in values in El Dorado Hills, while Folsom is at about 11 percent of 120 is based on comparables.

The reason I use the pending sales and sold the house is eliminating active listing statistics that may be too expensive for the market. I checked the same data used by the assessors.

Miki: What is important for the buyer or seller to know before choosing a company to represent them?

Dave: What they should look for in a Realtor is knowledge, someone they can relate to easily and who they can have absolute faith in the integrity, responsibility and service. For example, I could be a sharp knife in the drawer and the best in the apple tree, but if we are not related, I will not be able to give you the services you want.

Miki: Why did you live in Folsom?

Bonnie: We love the small town feeling of Folsom. Its parkways, lakes, golf course and central location other cities phenomenal.

Miki: If you go to "Realtor Heaven" tomorrow, how you want your client to remember you?

Dave: I promised my father when he died that through this company and my personal life ... I will leave a legacy of slavery, love, and change. I want my clients to say that whatever the outcome is for Dave, he did right by me.
