CAD software design introduced to Australia

According to Edge Software, UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced the launch of NX CAM Express - a new computer-aided design (CAD) neutral, Numerical Control (NC) programming application that can be be used independently or as an integral part of the popular UGS Velocity Series (tm) portfolio of PLM mid-market solutions.

As a leader in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software market with more than 35,000 seats installed globally, UGS brings world-class digital manufacturing functionality to small to mid-size manufacturers with NX CAM Express.

"UGS is increasing its market leading position in the CAM software to develop an aggressive program to address the needs of medium factories," said Alan Christman, CIMdata chairman and a recognized expert in the CAM market. "NX CAM Express is intended to provide in depth capability for clearly defined key areas of machinery, such as mold and die or turn the engine manufacturer, the software is easy to use and to use. Ready access to key elements such as a library of post processors as well as pre-configured software with best practices of the industry will make it easier and faster for customers to be productive and do it with a lower cost. "

NX CAM Express will be sold in CAD neutral packages, aimed at the needs of key machines, and is offered as an integrated system with Solid Edge (r) software, UGS 'powerful 3D CAD software, which allows expansion to a broader solution than UGS PLM. This also will be offered as a modular solution, with packages designed to meet key opportunities such as high speed machining and multi-function program factory-turns or five axis machines. When used correctly, these machines can offer significant improvements in efficiency or allow the engine machine shop parts that are more complex. NX CAM Express can help customers to maximize the use of sophisticated machines through built-in guidance on best practices and optimum machining methods.

"We see this as a great opportunity for us to be able to take a very capable CAM software solutions for the market and is suitable for a very good business plan as soon as your partner UGS existing channel," said Barry Bevis, MD of Edge Software. "Even we have been successful in our business with UGS software, and we see the NX CAM Express product exactly as the focus we need to develop our manufacturing business with the sale of UGS Velocity Series Other products such as Solid Edge, Femap and TeamCenter Express."

NX CAM Express software will be offered in the program pre-configured environment that automatically set the system to suit users working on the main types of machines such as the two half-axis machines, mold and die or five-axis machines. This provides access to the full force of the system, while maintaining ease of use. New users can take advantage of tutorials that are provided with the software, walking users through typical tasks and reducing the need for off-the-job training.

NX CAM Express packages are focused on the needs of machine shop

NX CAM Express packages each, including NX CAM Express Mill-Turn and the NX CAM Express Three-Axis Milling, is equipped with a tool-path verification, post processor build and edit application, CAD translators and machining parameters database. The software automatically selects key machining parameters from this database in accordance with engine operation, such as roughing or finishing, and stocks of materials, equipment and dimensions of the targeted machine tools. This database will address the majority of machine printed materials and die in work. Programming automation tools in the form of UGS 'Feature Based Machining and Machining Wizard Builder also included in each package to speed programming and make the task easier for less experienced users - increasing the use of methods and proven resources in the shop.

For advanced multi-functions like a factory machine-turns, UGS offering Machine Tool Support Kits to solve the problem of effective post processors and accurate a simulation engine. The first kit will be released with NX CAM Express.

NX CAM Express will be available for delivery in the third quarter of 2006.
