Modern building a future design

Even with 30 years experience building houses more than 200,000 low-cost houses around the world, not Habitat for Humanity has set ambitious goals such as building 400 houses in one week.

Usually, it takes Habitat four to five months to build a house using volunteers who do not work in construction.

This week, though, Habitat chapters across the country are getting volunteer labor and expertise of experienced home builders and their subcontractors, and they were both in their journey to achieve that goal one week.

What's the difference when house builders are involved.

Builders and real estate professionals to volunteer with Habitat projects here and there, but never so many at once.

In Orlando, "Home Builders Blitz 2006" is to use volunteers from Centex Homes, Inland Homes, Mercedes Homes, Homes and David Weekly Home Transeastern to build five homes on Mandrake Street.

Volunteers from Lexon Homes, Reiche Silliman, Ryland Homes and Park Square House was built four in Apopka. And volunteers from the two Houses of ICI building in Daytona Beach.

By 11 am, a house in Orlando already has established the exterior walls and roll set. By 4 pm, several homes in Apopka roof had passed inspection.

And it was done by the generous volunteers who know their stuff.

That's good news for families who will call these houses "homes" in just a few days - people who otherwise might never experience the joy of home ownership.
