Modern Home Design: Midwest Living’s idea home close to home

Every year the Midwest Living magazine to build a house showing the latest design trends, and this year close to home.

Magazine in 2006 Idea House is a luxurious second home in Egg Harbor, is open for tours until September.

4000 square foot house on a bluff overlooking Green Bay is at Horseshoe Bay Farms in 7043 Birchstone Lane development. The $ 1.4 million home offers a dramatic view from the kitchen, great room, glass and the main room, and combines ancient spirit in the area of small towns, artist colony and Swedish heritage.

This will open weekends through September 3, 11-5 Friday through Sunday. Admission is $ 10 for each person over 10; of Door County will benefit charity.

If you go, be sure to check these features:

* A kitchen without the closet. There is a bank window offering a spectacular view, and storage space in drawers, large kitchen and an island. Comfortable in the closet organizer to the plate, silver and special tools. A very innovative feature is the mixer moveable cabinet with shelves that can be cantilevered and out - you do not need to lift the mixer in or out of the cabinet to a desk.

* Natural, organic effect on the home's surfaces. In the kitchen and laundry room backsplashes, pebble "tile" is used to create texture and interest. The expression is echoed in the surrounding fireplace in the family room downstairs. There is also the size of wallpaper in the entry birch and twig chandeliers.

* A no-maintenance exterior, so the time homeowners can enjoy nature spent than guarding the house. James Hardie siding and trim and Timbertex embellishment on the front porch and rear deck will always look the way they do now.

* The steam, two people, multi-bath shower in the master bathroom, which also offers a water view in the window-lined room. Basic mirror cabinet under the sink dual reflective and expand the visual space.

* Light streaming in the windows in all rooms overlooking the bay. Round and oval windows accent several rooms.

* A bottom is designed as a reception room for visiting family and friends. He has a kitchen and a built-in home theater area.

* And finally, an upstairs closet is not really a closet. Has been built with drawers and cupboards in.

Quilting magazine editor visit

An honor for a local quilt shop is bringing a national magazine editor to the area.

Heidi Kaisand, editor of "American Patchwork & quilting," will speak at Club West in Neenah on June 17.

He visited in honor of Primitive Gatherings, 850 Racine St., Menasha who appeared as one of the top American quilt shop in "Quilt Sampler" magazine. Kaisand will talk about what is needed for a store to receive such recognition.

To attend a luncheon with Kaisand, contact Primitive Gathering at 920-722-7233. The event will start at 11:30 am at Club West, 2000 Arena Drive, Neenah. The cost is $ 18, which includes dinner.

Judy Collett, manager of the store display, said the store had received orders from all over the nation because that is mentioned in the magazine edition in May

"We get orders for everything imagined," said Collett. "Not only covers, but other things in the picture, too."
