Occoquan to hold craft furniture design show

With the warm weather and no rain, the city is expecting a successful Occoquan arts and crafts show this weekend.

"This should be a good weekend and we have lots of new crafters this year," said Greg Gilker, craft show coordinator for Prince William eastern cities along the Occoquan River.

He encouraged local residents to get out and see the new offerings, as well as a popular traditional crafts.

Approximately 300 exhibitors and vendors will pitch tents and present the best works along the streets of Occoquan. The event will run Saturday and Sunday 10-6.

The Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show is juried. A committee reviews examples of crafters' work before crafters who are allowed to attend the event. New pottery, woodworkers and some jewelry that was added this year, said Gilker.

Although there will be a number of traditional crafts in the show, visitors will also find contemporary art and crafts.

With the usual large crowd expected, visitors are asked to park in one of four designated lots and take a shuttle bus into town.

Shuttle buses will run from three commuter lots: Annapolis Way off U.S. 1; corner of Va. 123 and Old Bridge Road and the corner of Minnieville Road and Old Bridge Road. The fourth and largest parking site will be in the Vulcan Materials property along Va. 123.

Organizers give visitors plenty of time to enjoy the event. The transport will run continuously from 8 am to 6:30 pm both days.

In addition, there will be food booths, entertainment and more than 125 specialty shops and restaurants around town that will open.

The Occoquan arts and crafts show is free. However, there is $ 3 per person cost for the shuttle bus. Children younger than 13 ride free.
