Unique Contract Furniture Design Competition designed

The winners of the contest sponsored by The Hotel Show will be announced at the event scheduled to take place on 4-6 June 2006, at the Dubai International Exhibition Center.

Dubai-based APID new industry association and the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf, was established with support from some of the biggest names in the interior design industry as Cinmar Design, Hirsch Bedner Associates, KCA International, Espacio Design, Interiors Intarch International, as well as Gulf Interiors magazine and the American University in Dubai.

Kenneth Laider, President, APID said, "I can not stress strongly enough that we consider the education of students and graduates as the most important interior designers in improving the professionalism in our industry. Competition is an integral part of the process and to emphasize the commercial criteria students will gain an understanding of better balance of design concepts with economic viability, and thus meet the demands of market competition. "

This competition is open to students throughout the Middle East studying interior design. They have been commissioned to design the various cases of goods that are suitable for mass production for 3-4 star hotels. Furniture items will include bed headboards, night stands, TV stand, desk or dressing table and cupboards.

Participants will be invited to submit up to four concept sketches, development drawings and detail drawings. Uniform presentation will be made on A2 board with a written description of the concept and material specifications. To ensure anonymity during the selection process, no names or identifying marks will be displayed on the board, only a shipping reference number which will be forwarded to competitors after registration.

Entries will be judged by a jury consisting of APID appointed a leading member of the local interior design industry, leading education institutions, The Hotel Show organizers and other major sponsors. Assessment criteria will focus on four main areas, the concept of innovative, practical, concise and adherence to economic survival. In total there will be four prizes, the top prize to $ 2,500 and a royalty agreement for the production of furniture design, the choice should be taken up.
