Quick takes for home and garden design

AIDS Rochester Inc., a support organization for people with HIV or AIDS, is to encourage local gardeners to heed the call Plant a Row. National program urged the fruit and vegetable gardeners to plant extra rows and donate plants to those who can not buy fresh produce regularly. Local, AIDS Rochester asked them to grow extra rows and helping to feed the client group.

Water gardening class

Add the dimension of sound and movement to your garden this summer with a class on water gardening. Class of water features will be presented from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday by KC Fahy-Harvick, former owner of Hawk's Nest Nursery at the Hilton and the current owner of Gardening Matters, a garden consultation, design and maintenance business. Classes cost $ 23 and registration is required.

Park tour

Check out Canandaigua-area park while supporting literacy for Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County's "Garden in Bloom" tour, which will be held 9:30-3:30 June 17. Tickets ($ 18, $ 20 day of tour; $ 15 group rate for groups of five or more) are available 9-4 working days in the office, 208 S. Main St., Canandaigua. Tour the city

The Landmark Society of Western New York "Architecture for lunch" again talks Friday in a row for three months. Period of time to adjust to the busy schedule and lunch break for lunch, free presentation featuring the history and architecture of the city center. Each of the following walking tours 12:10-12:35 and no registration is required.

Friday (Four Corners): Discover historic Rochester financial, and legal districts. Meet at the entrance Powers Building, 16 W. Main St

June 16 (Washington Square Park): Explore the city's first park, originally destined to become Monroe County's court square. Meet at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on South Clinton Avenue, across the Geva Theater.

June 23 (Eastman Place): Tour East End Cultural District with historic Victorian residential pockets and handsome early 20th century historical building. Meet opposite the entrance to the Eastman Theater, 60 Gibbs St.

Eastman House needs help

George Eastman House is seeking new docents to interpret and guide visitors through a national historic landmark house George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak Company and the father of popular films and film photography.

A training class for volunteer tour guide begins this summer.

Qualifications for the position include: an interest in learning about George Eastman, home and garden, with the impact on the world of imaging and the early years of the company. Volunteers should also express interest in meeting visitors from all over the world and will be available to volunteer between two and four hours a week.
