Home Interior Design: Kitchens by design

Sarah Blank from Kitchen SBD does not care about keeping up with the latest trends. He prefers to design kitchens and other rooms are working properly.

Empty, which opened the studios about a month ago, was a follower of "classic design" and believe their best to maintain the special design simple so that they outlive fashion.

Blank is working on a newer or older kitchen, with the overall concept remains consistent.

"The concept design of the kitchen when I was not just about the box on the wall. You consider space and thought the entire room as opposed to just the cabinet," he said.

What did you do before opening the business?

I've been in the kitchen design for 25 years. I started with Allmilmo in New York City for about four years, and then I worked for the Kitchen By Deane 17 years.

What are the challenges of this business?

There are many challenges. Everyone wants things fast, but the design takes time. If you do not have time to think through, there will be a problem.

Do you only work in the kitchen?

Especially the kitchen, but these days we are doing the master closet. People (formerly the kitchen clients) will come back to us for the closet and bathroom.

Walk me through a typical working scenario.

It is important to meet clients in their homes. I told them not to clean their rooms. We really need to look at lifestyle and function space. Then we come to the scheme and give an idea about the budget.

How to market your business?

It's landing. The people who called me said that they had seen four of the kitchen. We did some advertising for name recognition.

How many employees do you have?

Seven employees. There were three designers here, including me.

Where is your primary work area?

Westchester County and Fairfield County. People here take us to the second and third for designing residence in Palm Beach, Nantucket and Houston.

What do you enjoy about the business?

Passed FIT (New York's Fashion Institute of Technology), where I studied interior design. I fell into the kitchen design. It's always interesting and detail oriented, and I was never bored. I think it's useful to hear that the people who truly enjoy their space. Someone bought a house in Scarsdale with a kitchen that I did 12 years ago. The couple said that the buyer bought the house because she loves the kitchen.

What about future growth?

I want to continue what I do and I want to continue my education. I do not want to become stagnant.
