Felda aims to sell handicraft design in Harrods

Felda aims to sell handicrafts under "Modern Malaysia" brand in strategic markets including the famous Harrods department store in London.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he hoped to see the goals become a reality in the next year.

"This is a dream that Felda will be marketed handicrafts in the shops in Harrods," he said when opening the first Felda craft gallery in the Crafts Complex at Jalan Conlay, here, Saturday.

Two Felda craft gallery will be open before the end of the year. Najib said the 11 centers of handicraft production Felda was established under an area of industrial projects will be used to supply the Modern Malaysian handicraft for the global market.

He said that under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, Felda planned to build 20 more centers of handicraft production.

Felda will also open more sales outlets of the next five years.

Najib said Felda must develop handicraft production into a commercial enterprise, improving the quality to allow exports and making the industry the main source of income for the settlers.

He then launched a book written in English, "Modern Malaysian by Felda: A Tribute to Felda craftsmen" .- Bernama www.dailyexpress.com.my
