In various periods of American history, different architectural styles were prevalent with builders. If you take a home tour around a specific city, you can feel different when the environment is built based on the architecture of the houses. Today, many new homes that combine aspects of this style is different from the exterior and interior.
Queen Anne, Gothic Revival and Empire homes are all variations of Victorian style. Popular after the Civil War, this house is the most popular in the South and West. With complex shapes, elaborate trimming, and fish-scale shingles, these homes truly reflect the Victorian era. This home design is generally more like the style above function. Ranch houses are probably the most popular variations of the Modern style. Ranch originated in California in the 1930s, and became nationally popular in the 1950s and '60s when it became a symbol of post-World War II American Dream. Common design elements for the one-story house is a pitched-roof, wood or brick exterior, and built-in garage that shares the same roofline with the home. It is also favored a patio in the back of the house as a replacement of the front porch.
