Widmer Brothers Brewing Co.. is buying a minority stake in Chicago-based microbrewery Goose Island Beer Co.., Anheuser-Busch Cos For. has a big stake in Widmer, a Portland, Oregon, microbrewery, the investment will improve the St.. Louis brewer's exposure to a thriving crafts market is still being discussed.
Last month, the Chicago Tribune reported that Anheuser-Busch, which is close to buying up to 35 percent of Goose Island in a deal that will change the distribution of Goose Island beer with AB wholesalers.
However, Goose Island has been talking with Widmer Brothers, not Anheuser-Busch, about making investments in Chicago microbrewery, Goose Island, said today.
Agreement by Widmer to purchase shares has been reached, although the discussion will not be finished for several more days.
